Nailing your brand message

Thoughts -

When it comes to branding, a clear and concise brand message is key. A strong brand message can be the difference between your business standing out from the crowd or blending into the background.

It’s what communicates your values and elevates customer recognition, creating an emotional connection with your audience and ultimately increasing the buzz around your biz!

Almost every business has a brand, but not all businesses have clear brand messaging. So, what’s the difference? Brand messaging is how you can help make sure your audience has a relationship with your brand. Your messaging can inspire and motivate them, making them want to invest in what you’re offering.

It encompasses everything, from the organisation’s vision and mission statements to the way it talks about itself on social media and in advertising. Clear brand messaging helps customers understand what your company is all about, and it can help you differentiate yourself from your competitors.

Here are five reasons your business needs a clear brand message:

1. Establishes your USP.

One of the most important aspects of brand messaging, and the reason it’s crucial every brand establishes theirs sooner rather than later, is the role it plays in helping your business stand out from the crowd. Brand messaging helps you define your company’s unique selling proposition (USP). What makes your company different from all the others in your industry? Why should customers choose you instead of your competitors? Answering these questions will help you craft a strong message that resonates with your target audience.

2. Attracts investors and partners.

If your brand message is clear and concise, it will be much easier to pitch your business to potential investors, partners and customers. They’ll be able to quickly understand what your company does, what makes it unique and why it’s worth investing in. Not having this clear messaging could impact a company’s ability to connect not only with potential investors, but with its target audience, too!

3. Encourages focus.

The perks of developing a clear brand message aren’t just for the benefit of your audience. Establishing a thorough brand message is effective in helping a company stay focused. It can be easy for businesses to get caught up in the day-to-day grind and lose sight of their goals. Having a clear brand message can help keep brands laser-focussed on what’s important and act as a reminder of the company’s overarching mission.

4. Builds trust.

Brand messaging is a highly effective method of building trust with your customers and target audience. If your audience knows what your company stands for and what it’s trying to achieve, and this is demonstrated through honest and consistent messaging, you’re more likely to develop a loyal, returning audience.

5. Positions you as an industry leader.

If you can craft a strong message that sets you apart from your competitors, you’ll stand a much higher chance of positioning your company as a thought leader in your industry, attracting more customers and ultimately growing your business.

Now that we’ve shared the importance of brand messaging, here are our three top tips for creating a message that hits the spot:

1. Understand your target audience.

Who are you trying to reach with your brand message? What are their needs and wants? Once you can answer these questions, you can start to create a coherent voice that will allow you to speak directly to your target audience.

2. Know your ‘why?’.

Before you go full steam ahead, you need to have established your ‘why?’. People don’t buy who you are, they buy why you do it. Starting with a ‘why?’ will provide your brand with a better sense of purpose and allow you to create powerful brand messages that genuinely mean something to your audience.

For instance, here at Agent, we’re here to ‘make good work’, and because we’re clear about this in our messaging, people who believe in our mission will want to join us!

3. Consistency is key.

Be consistent with your brand messaging. Once you’ve defined your USP, make sure all your marketing and advertising materials reflect this message. Ensure your website, social media account, and other ways in which you are public facing are all on the same page, sharing the same message, in the same voice.
